I teach workshops and classes in my studio and sometimes in other venues in felting, silk scarf painting, dyeing, and soap making.
I am primarily a traditional felter making felt from carded fleece and using my own handmade soap. I make flat pieces, jewelry, hats, scarves and sculptural pieces and will share my techniques as I have picked them up from various places and people.
The silk scarf painting is usually a birthday party or special class and takes about 1 to 2 hours. It has been popular among the early teens and would be a great day out for older people as well.
Dyeing is done with weak acid dyes most of the time on wool and silk. I like to mix my own colours from a few standard dyes. I will often have a dye day with friends, but will formalize a class as well.
Soap making is a regular event in my studio and I offer regular soap making classes for cold process soap. I tailor my classes to the requirements of the students so any with special skin problems may be accommodated. I use a standard recipe which I have been using successfully for over 20 years but will use different oils if needed. I use vegetable oils and essential oils, herbs and non-toxic additives. I have had many students who have told me how satisfied they are with the soap and many will return to make a new batch. If that fails, they tend to purchase my soap as it really is great stuff.
